Diabetes is prevalent amongst the most widespread diseases in the whole countries so that world health organization (WHO) calls it silent epidemic. Students with diabetes encounter challenges in the medical, psychosocial, communication and academic domains. Therefore, counselors’ knowledge, attitudes, and awareness regarding students with diabetes is important. The purpose of this present was to identify the information needs of school counselors for diabetic students. This study employed a qualitative method (generic). The study population was composed of diabetic students and their parents and counselors of schools in Khuzestan province.12 participants were selected using the purposive sampling method and in-depth interviews were conducted until data saturation. The interviews were recorded and transcribed and then analyzed using a conventional content analysis. The information needs of school consultants for diabetic students were classified into 5 themes (confidentiality as a barrier; inadequate school; physical, psychological and communication changes; encountering of family and diabetes; and counseling services) and 30 sub-themes. The findings suggest that diabetic students and their families encounter various difficulties related to diabetes. School counselors need to obtain different types of information about the needs of diabetic students and provide them and the school staff with appropriate support. They may also need specific skills in caring for students with diabetes.
